Brand story

Patch make bamboo bandages for a natural approach to wound care. You might know bamboo bandages by the name bamboo bandaids, or sticky plasters! With added coconut oil, aloe vera or charcoal to help soothe and assist healing. Bamboo patch are biodegradable and engineered to be the most sensitive and natural band aid on the market.

A recent study found evidence of PFAS being used in band aids and bandages. Mamavation used an EPA-certified laboratory to independently test for indications of PFAS in 40 bandages and found 26 to contain organic fluorine which is an indicator of forever chemicals known as PFAS.

PFAS chemicals were created to resist stains, heat, oil, water and grease and are used in products like non-stick cookware, textiles and food packaging. In the case of bandages it is believed they are used to make the product waterproof.

Linda Birnbaum (Scientist Emeritus and Former Director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and National Toxicology Program) said in response to the results found in the testing “Because bandages are placed upon open wounds, it’s troubling to learn that they may be also exposing children and adults to PFAS.”

Are Patch bandages PFAS free?

The tests found that Patch Bamboo Bandages for Kids with Coconut Oil had no detection for organic fluorine on both the absorbent pad and sticky flaps of the bandages.

Patch uses the same adhesive and paper-based sticky flaps across their entire bandage range.
