The Scenic Route is the creative project of artist and textile designer Victoria McGrane who is currently travelling around Australia in a converted Toyota Coaster Bus. With a background in the fashion industry, Victoria formally created textile designs for a number of noted brands in Australia and Europe before launching The Scenic Route in late 2017. The name, The Scenic Route, reflects Victoria's personal and creative philosophy. Choosing the path less travelled, slowing down, enjoying the journey and appreciating the scenery – taking the scenic route – is the basis for the inspiration behind her designs.
“I'm a daydreamer with a big imagination. I come up with my best ideas when surrounded by nature. That's why I'm travelling around Australia in Daisy, a 1990 Toyota Coaster which has been lovingly converted into a motor home designed for off-grid living with solar panels, solar battery storage and water tanks,” says Victoria.
Inspired by her travels, the beauty of nature and the unique flora and fauna of Australia, Victoria creates intricately illustrated botanical artworks and unique surface print designs.
“My hand-illustrated work is inspired by my love of travel, as I explore the amazing landscapes, colours, flora and fauna of Australia. With my sketchbook under my arm and my camera at the ready, I observe the beautiful plants, animals, colours and landscapes that cross my path.”
Victoria's appreciation for the environment is why she wants to minimise her footprint and live sustainably. All of The Scenic Route products feature original hand-illustrated artworks and surface pattern designs by Victoria. The range includes paper and gift products such as greeting cards, gift wraps and calendars, all made from 100% recycled paper and printed using environmentally friendly water and vegetable based inks. The Scenic Route was created from a desire to make a positive impact, and to create products that people will love and treasure forever. Everything is locally designed, ethically made and minimally packaged using eco-friendly methods and recycled materials. Victoria is also proud to partner with Rainforest Rescue, a small not for profit conservation organisation working to protect and restore rainforests in the unprotected Daintree lowlands. To date, Rainforest Rescue has rescued over 1.5 million square meters of rainforest and has planted over 300,000 rainforest trees.
“I've teamed up with Rainforest Rescue, designing fine art prints of the Daintree to raise funds for this vital not-for-profit. $5 from each Scenic Route calendar will be donated directly to Rainforest Rescue to help them buy unprotected land and plant trees.”
