Solutions that help you simplify, reduce toxins and live more gently on our planet are what we're all about here at Biome, and this is one of our favourites. In this recipe we show you how to combine a few simple ingredients to make your own DIY BB Cream, foundation cream, DIY concealer or DIY tinted moisturiser. It is really quick and easy, saves money by reducing the need to buy multiple products, and uses natural, cruelty-free ingredients!
This DIY foundation, tinted moisturiser and concealer makeup recipe uses our Biome Be.UNITY Light Face Cream and mineral powder. In other words, this is exactly what a BB Cream is!
“BB” is short for “blemish balm” or “beauty balm”. BB Creams are meant to be a hybrid between a skincare and make-up product, designed to provide makeup coverage while delivering the hydrating and nourishing benefits of a face moisturiser.
Our DIY approach is perfect for those who want a lightweight, natural-looking liquid foundation to wear every day. Not to mention the time-saving with just one product to apply.
DIY Natural BB Cream, Foundation Cream and Tinted Moisturiser Recipe
This homemade BB cream or liquid foundation is vegan, palm oil free, cruelty-free, and made in Australia from simple, natural ingredients. We have not tested the recipe using other moisturising creams.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon of Biome light face cream
- 1-2 teaspoons of natural mineral makeup foundation powder in your colour choice (we used Eco Minerals)
- ¼ teaspoon of non-nano zinc oxide* (optional)
- 1 x 15ml container
*The zinc oxide in this recipe is not intended for use as a sunscreen but to add texture and thickness to the mix only.
Method
BB Cream and Liquid Foundation DIY Recipe
- Add the cream, the mineral foundation powder and the non-nano zinc oxide (if using) into a small bowl.
- Using the back of a spoon, blend together thoroughly until all lumps and clumps are completely removed. You should end up with a flawless mix of smooth paste.
- Add more mineral foundation powder for a darker colour, mix colours to suit your own skin tone, or add a little more of the unscented cream if the consistency is too thick. Test the colour and texture on the inside of your wrist and work from there. The beauty of this recipe is you can completely custom design your desired texture and colour.
- Store the DIY foundation cream in a small container with a sealed lid.
Tinted moisturiser: If you prefer more of a tinted moisturiser consistency, leave out the zinc oxide.
Concealer: If you would like to make a concealer, add less face cream.
How To Use
Use sparingly!
First, apply a little natural sunscreen on your face if desired.
Apply the DIY foundation cream to dry and clean skin as normal using your clean fingers or a makeup sponge. The finish is lovely, smooth and non-greasy.
Brush over lightly with some mineral foundation powder if required.
Suitable for sensitive skin and daily use.
Store in a cool dry area out of sunlight. Use within 6 months.
